About "Band-Aids"

Hey all!

Since the end of the 2016 Presidential Election, I have observed how people online and in person have come to terms with the results. I also had a fairly strong reaction to the election. Politics aside, I noticed that there were so many people who felt scared, hopeless, and anxious about what is going to happen to them and their country. I do not mean to discount what people are going through and why some have chosen to end the friendships or relationships with family members. In fact, it's one of the inspirations behind my new song "Band-aids."

I wrote "Band-aids" because I needed to do something productive with my own feelings towards the election that would help people. I wanted to acknowledge the hurt and disappointment, while beginning the conversation about moving forwards. I wrote "Band-Aids" the day after the election. A day full of anxiety and disappointment; and I felt I had to say something.

"I can see you bleeding/but I'm all out of band-aids/ I can hear you screaming/ but we need more than first-aid..."

These lines were the beginning of it all. I came home from a long day at work and had this idea pop into my head while I was writing a paper. It captured the helplessness I felt regarding not being able to change the situation. It also captured the idea that as a society, we have not really dealt with the underlying causes of all the hatred that has been brought to light by this election. This song was not about politics , nor a snide remark at any political party. At the end of it all, people of both sides envision a better future for this country and have different ways of going about it. People of both sides are angry, lonely, and dreaming of what the future could hold. The truth is no one really knows what the future holds.

Here is the video of my new song, "Band-aids." I hope you like it! If you feel so inclined, feel free to leave a comment, "Like" the video, subscribe to my youtube channel and/or mailing list, and tell your friends!

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Cat Ivy
